Limelight Foundation

Okay so it has been a while since i have blogged, but i have something exciting to share!

I recently made the switch from my beloved Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation to my new love Limelight by Alcone Botanical Foundation!

So a few key things about my skin. I have Combo/Oily most of the time, and it is extremely prone to breakouts. It has been a disaster over the past year, but mostly just scarring that refuses to lighten up. You can see the scarring in my before photo in the cover of this post.

My skin routine will be up in a few days, but back to this new obsession…

Alcone is mostly known for their makeup on movie stars and musicians, but recently is gunning for a more population based brand. Meaning the public is now in on their secrets and amazing products.

Key things about this foundation are:

  • It is wax based (say what never heard of it!) so instead of water or oils it is wax. This sounds weird but i think it is wonderful because it really gives the skin more of an overall uniform look. No blotchiness like powder foundations or some color catching in wrinkles or on the cheek bones like a lot of matte foundations do. It stays in place better then liquid as well.
  • This foundation is 50 percent pigment. That is at least twice as much in any other common foundations (ie. fit me, NARS, Makeup Forever, etc). Therefore, it takes so much less product to cover so much more surface of the skin.
  • It has a totally new consistency. (You will be able to see this in the photo below). It is best applied with a brush or sponge after warming it wither in the pan or on the back of your hand!found
  • I personally like to use my IT Cosmetics foundation buffer brush just because it is what i am used to and i feel it is better for a full coverage look.

So ultimately this foundation has taken over my life and i have been wearing it everyday! It looks soooo natural which is something i am always worried about for a day to day wear.

Here is my Youtube Video of applying the foundation (i am currently working on the quality of the video so hang in there with me!)  :

let’s talk colourpop

Colourpop is one of my lipstick favorites and there are a lot of mixed reviews out there and I’ll tell you exactly why!

Why they hate it: If you already have dry lips and you apply colourpop shades the formula definitely seems to make it worse. Is it terrible? Definitely not at all, but for some it’s just enough to determine not using the products!

Why I love it: first off, it is so affordable. Colourpop sells these shades for $6 a tube and I think that is insane. Lipsticks are expensive, but with these you get a million shades without breaking the bank. Also even though my lips get dry in the winter it really doesn’t bother me. I think that it dries simply to try and keep the Colourpop lasting longer and the longer they last the better in my book. These lipsticks really do look great and keep a collection looking fabulous.

Here are my favorite shades as swatches!

1. Vice 2.Times Square 3. Tulle 4. Bumble and 5. Femme

a little primer makes a difference

I know there are a lot of beauty bloggers who are not so into using a primer on your face before you apply your makeup, but i preach it!

Not any primer is good however. Products like PrimeTime by Bare Minerals and Prep and Prime by MAC work like a charm, BUT they can also make you break out pretty badly even if you only use it for one day. If you have skin like mine that is very sensitive and doesn’t take much to irritate it i do not recommend the above mentioned primers.

This is my Holy Grail Primer. Benefit has a few killer products but this one is my all time favorite. Not only does it neutralize the redness caused by using a face scrub or left over acne marks from an earlier break out, but it also has the least amount of acne causing ingredients i have been so lucky to find. Cosdna has this one listed as the least harmful to your skin using it everyday.

If there is a day i am looking for a little more coverage for an especially red face i will mix this primer with NYX’s CC Cream in Green (at Ulta an Sephora) to really give myself a nice canvas for my makeup. Green is notorious for canceling out redness BTW and is completely magical.

Again this is a very expensive primer (~$30) , but the big bottle is on sale often and it lasts me about four months which is far longer then PrimeTime ever did.

Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara

This particular product has been so hyped up in the last year so finally i had to break down and try it!

So first off the packaging is so beautiful. It just screamed sophisticated lady at me so i basically had no choice but to snatch one up.

I generally would not choose a brush like the one they use so i was seriously weary of how i would like it.

First coat went on perfectly. No clumping and already better then the Maybelline or Covergirl when it comes to coating the lash with the intense black. Second coat was game over. My lashes did not clump at all and were instantly right where i wanted them to be!  I notice this brush is really good at getting into the sometimes forgotten corners of the eye and it really makes all the difference.

This product is anywhere from 20-25 for the full size tube, which is pretty spendy, but i definitely think the large tube will last me quite some time!
